What NYC FC Signing Lampard and Villa Means for the MLS

Yesterday it was announced that one of the new MLS teams, New York City FC, would be signing renowned Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard and the all-time top scorer for the Spanish national team, David Villa. These signings are expected to have a huge impact on the MLS. Bringing in players of this caliber will help grow interest in the MLS as well as a higher level of skill in the league. Another big signing that very much helped the MLS occurred in 2010, when the New York Red Bulls signed legendary French striker Thierry Henry. Henry transformed a mediocre Red Bulls team into championship contenders. Two big signings like this — especially two players joining the same team — will go a very long way in promoting the MLS and making it a more competitive league.

  1. Exciting news! We’ve been living in Poland and have gotten into football in a big way. Looking forward to some MLS when we return to the USA next year. Enjoy your blog! 🙂
